Inter Macc finish runners up in Alder Hey Cup!
On Sunday 21st March the Inter Macc U7's team took part in the Alder Hey Cup organised by Unicorn JFC.
We played six group games losing one game 1-0, drawing four games 0-0, and most memorably drawing 1-1 against a Stockport Juniour Blues team that had won every game before facing us.
We started our first game very nervously which is understandable considering we had only played two games prior to the tournament. As the games went on we got better and better with each match played, proving exactly what we are capable of. Defensively we were a real force and all the teams found us hard to socre against and on another day if we had taken our chances we would have won the majority of our group games.
We finished 4th in our group which meant we progressed through to the quater finals to play the winner of group B.
Again the boys played brilliantly and after a hard fought game in which the score was 0-0 after extra time we won on penalties. Into the semi's we went.
The semi final match was a match where we defended brilliantly again and a game i feel we should have won in normal time as we created three clear cut chances. Unfortunately we failed to score again and after extra time the score remained 0-0. After another nervous penalty shoot out the Inter Macc boys emerged victorious. Into the final we went.
In the final we came up against a team from Group B who had won the majority of there games leading upto the final and would provide our toughest test yet. To stand a chance in the game the boys would need to deliver their best performance yet.......Exactly what they did. They worked hard individually and overall it was an excellent team performance in a game of few chances for either side. Again the score was 0-0 and again the game would be decided on penalties! After already coming through two shoot outs victorious to reach the final a third was two much to ask and we were beaten.
Overall it was an excellent day for myself, all the parents that came along to support the boys and most of all for the players themselves who should be really proud of what they achived in reaching the final.
